  • Demonstrates Value of Holistic, Strategic and Integrated External and Internal Communications
  • Winners to be Announced October 15, 2013

SAN JOSE, CA — September 10, 2013 – Tanis Communications, Inc., a leading Silicon Valley marketing and communications services firm, has been named a Finalist in PR News’ Platinum PR Awards.  Tanis was selected in the Financial/Investor Relations category for its work announcing the merger of two public companies, Oclaro and Opnext, creating an industry leader in optical components, modules and subsystems. To support the merger, Tanis led and implemented all external and internal communications, including a complete rebranding of the newly combined company.

“We are honored to be recognized as a Platinum PR Awards finalist, showcasing our agency’s unique ability to partner with our clients to execute high-impact, strategic, integrated communications and marketing programs,” said Nikki Tanis, president of Tanis Communications.  “We are proud of the results of the Oclaro merger communications, a compelling case study validating our very disciplined approach to brand strategy development, messaging and detail-oriented program execution.“

Oclaro/Opnext Merger

In March 2012, Tanis client Oclaro announced plans to merge with Opnext, a major competitor. Tanis Communications was the strategic and tactical communications hub for the merger, supporting the company’s in-house resources. As a result of the integrated approach to the merger communications, messaging was consistent, yet tailored, to each audience. Press coverage was extensive and the rationale for the merger was well understood across internal and external audiences.

The program included:

  • External communications programs for the merger announcement including PR, web, financial communications and customer and supplier communications;
  • A complete rebranding program for the new company, articulating new vision and values, mission statement, a new logo and identity and all related collateral including a new website;
  • Management and employee communications in multiple countries, including video, multimedia, leadership communications and merger updates and emails.

According to a press release issued by PR News, finalists of the Platinum PR Awards set industry standards for excellence across all areas of public relations. Finalists are from corporations, agencies and nonprofits—both large and small—that took chances, made tremendous strides in their communications efforts and understand the power of PR.

“For us at PR News, and for our community, the Platinum PR Awards serve annually as a celebration of the year’s top PR teams and as an ideal showcase for their most successful campaigns,” said Steve Goldstein, editorial director of PR News. “There were so many terrific entries this year, and once again we were reminded that creativity and inspiration rule in communications.”
